I made a decision last week to not
represent a product that I really like. In fact, I own
it and use it frequently and will continue to do so.
The problem - the affiliate program is really slanted toward
the publisher - 30 day cookie, low commission, no commission
if the customer comes back on another affiliate link.
All pretty typical of the affiliate programs that many of us
promote. But time and money are tight and it just
doesn't make sense to spend it building up a publishers
business who obviously didn't have my best interest at
heart.
Up until recently, we didn't have much
choice when it came to affiliate programs - the publisher
dictated the terms and that was it. The result is that
90% of affiliates make little or no money.
Now we have options. I've had 3 emails in
the past couple of weeks promoting new affiliate programs
and technology that locks the potential customer to you for
life. All they need to do is engage in one interactive
action - download a report or ebook, subscribe to a
newsletter, or purchase a product and they are yours.
These programs have many other affiliate friendly features
that will force other publishers to give affiliates the
break we deserve.
If you operate an affiliate program - its
time to change to more affiliate friendly terms or you risk

Tax Ban Likely to Be Extended
InformationWeek.com reports that Congress
is likely to extend the current ban on taxing internet
services perhaps by as much as 5 years. This is not
without opposition, however, since several state and local
authorities already apply simple use taxes to internet
services and a consortium of states has created the
Streamlined Sales Tax Project to study ways to collect taxes
on products sold over the Internet. Read the full

Are Smart Pages Really Smart?
In the past few weeks I've heard a lot about Smart Pages.
Some say its really just search engine optimization, others
say they don't work at all, another saying they've been
